Early Years
“Every child deserves the best possible start in life and the support that enables them to fulfil their potential. Children develop quickly in the early years and a child’s experiences between birth and age five have a major impact on their future life chances. A secure, safe and happy childhood is important in its own right. Good parenting and high quality early learning together provide the foundation children need to make the most of their abilities and talents as they grow up”
Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage 2020
At Harwood Park our EYFS curriculum follows Development Matters. It covers the seven areas of learning and children work towards achieving the Early Learning Goals at the end of the Reception year.
Communication and language has a strong focus within our curriculum and underpins all the other areas of learning. Our curriculum promotes vocabulary and language development through a range of strategies and approaches.
Our curriculum is delivered through a careful balance of direct teaching and child-led learning through play. Our knowledgeable and passionate EYFS practitioners support all children in their development and learning through meaningful interactions, carefully planned lessons and lots of support and encouragement. Our spacious and well equipped learning environments enable children to explore and apply their learning independently in wide range of contexts.
Children are at the centre of everything we do at Harwood Park. Our curriculum has been designed around the needs of our children to ensure that all children leave the Early Years Foundation Stage ready for the next step in their education.
