Attendance

It is extremely important that your child attends school every day so they do not miss any learning. We aim for 95% and above and if we achieve this as a class we get an attendance party!

PE

Reception will have PE twice a week. Our PE days are Thursday and Friday. Children will need to bring their PE kit to school in a bag with their name clearly labelled. Children are expected to come to school on PE days in their full school uniform and will change in school for PE. Children will need black pumps, a white t-shirt and dark joggers/shorts. PE kits can also be purchased from the school office.

Home Reading

We use Read Write Inc phonics to teach early reading and writing skills. Daily practise of phonics sounds, and word books is important. We want all children to ‘keep up not catch up.’

As your child begins to learn the sounds, they will bring home QR codes so they can practise the sounds at home. Children will also bring home a green Speed Sounds Book - this is to keep at home and use regularly to practise recognising the sounds and writing the letters correctly. Once your child has learnt several sounds, they will start to come home with a home reading 'Blending Book'.

Please practise as often as you can and sign the diary to say when your child has done so.  We expect children to practise their sounds/ read their books a minimum of 4 times per week at home. Please ensure the book and reading diary are brought to school every day as children will be reading to adults on school also.

Please see the links below for further support with helping your child to read.

Rewards

At Harwood Park, we use Class dojo. Children can be awarded dojos for things such as working hard, being kind and respectful, and showing the core values . Any adult across school can award dojo's too. When the children reach 100, 100 and 500 dojos they will receive a certificate.
