White Rose Maths
Harwood Park follows the White Rose Maths scheme from Nursery to Year 6. High-quality resources from White Rose Maths align perfectly with the DfE EYFS statutory framework including the early learning goals.
Through interactive lessons and practical activities, White Rose makes mathematical mastery achievable for all pupils. The scheme builds understanding through small, cumulative steps, creating a strong foundation for deep mathematical knowledge.
White Rose Maths adopts a teaching for mastery approach, ensuring pupils develop a secure grasp of concepts before moving on. This pedagogy emphasizes fluency, reasoning, and problem-solving, supported by the Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract (CPA) method to strengthen conceptual understanding. Key principles include dedicating significant time to number fundamentals and encouraging whole-class progression, fostering collaboration and adaptive teaching to meet individual needs.
Pupils at Harwood Park also take part in daily fluency sessions using Mastering Number—a teaching approach developed by the NCETM (National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics). This programme is designed to build a deep understanding of number and strong fluency with number facts (number sense) through short, daily, whole-class sessions that complement the main maths lesson.
