Reading

At Harwood Park we aim to promote and develop the key skills of reading alongside promoting a life long love of reading.

Children are  taught the skills of reading from the start where they begin Read Write Inc lessons in Early Years through to Year Two. In other year groups reading skills are developed through focused English lessons, RAMP reading lessons and reading in  a range of other subjects, all using high quality texts.

Children also have home reading books which they should read often to an adult. We use our home reading challenge to monitor reading at home. At school children read individually to adults, as part of a class through class texts and adults enjoy reading and sharing books with their class every day.  In addition children have access to a wide range of quality texts in classroom reading areas and in our school libraries.

Reading is an important skill for life and should be encouraged at every opportunity!

Reading whilst isolating at home

If you are working at home, you still have access to reading books!
Log on to our Bug Club where you can access a range of reading books at your level. As you read, make sure you record what you have read in your reading record so that it can be counted to your Reading Challenge on your return.
